In a major regulatory update for vehicle owners, authorities have announced that Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates will not be issued without a High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) starting April 15. The move is aimed at strengthening compliance with vehicle identification norms and ensuring better monitoring of pollution standards. Under the new rule, vehicles lacking HSRP will be denied emission certification, effectively restricting their legal use on roads.
HSRP plates, which are tamper-proof and digitally linked to vehicle databases, have already been made mandatory across India for improved security and tracking. Authorities believe linking PUC issuance with HSRP will help eliminate fake registrations and enhance enforcement of traffic and environmental laws. Vehicle owners who have not yet upgraded their number plates are advised to complete the process promptly to avoid penalties and service disruptions.
